Heading for open water
The water market explained
Your quick guide to the changes taking place in England’s water market.
What’s happening?
On 1st April 2017 England’s non-domestic water market will open. What this essentially means is that all business customers, regardless of size or consumption levels, will be given the power to choose their supplier of both water and wastewater services.
What will it mean to me?
Whilst nothing will change about the water that reaches your site, or the infrastructure it passes through to get to you, your account facilities and customer services will be provided by a licensed retailer of your choosing.
Will my business benefit from the changes?
When it comes to the new open water market, we can learn much from the Scottish example. Scotland saw its market open up back in 2008. Since then, water prices have fallen and customer satisfaction levels have significantly risen. English customers can expect to benefit from similar changes, and will also have the advantage of being able to consolidate all of their services across multiple sites, no matter which region they are in.
